NEW DELHI — A government agency has said it will reimburse Facebook for $8 million of the $11.5 million it has promised to give to the online advertising platform in the wake of its latest round of funding.

The government agency, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, said Monday it would seek the money from the online platform’s $5 billion annual funding.

Facebook said Monday that it had made its funding commitment to the government agency and would provide the money as per the agreement.

The announcement comes as the social media giant faces pressure from governments across the world to expand its reach to India, which has more than 200 million users and is a major consumer of its products.
